The Holy Trinity: The mystery of discerning Gods wisdom.

One concept in which has given me multiple headaches over the years is the Trinity. How the f***, could God could be three persons and one? How could Jesus be fully human, and fully God. Legit makes no sense. But does it serve another purpose? Richard Rohr- my favourite theologian- states that Theology is always growing and getting stronger, finding itself. One verse in which stood out yesterday was John 16:12-13:

"I still have many things to say to you

but they would be too much for you now,

but when the spirit of truth comes

he will lead you to complete truth"

When reflecting on this passage, it leads me to think of two messages in which are true to me. They are: The open mind we Christians need to have of truths; and also how science and religion can be unified as one.

One curse in which Christianity still holds, is the claim that we know the complete truth. I, personally think that this is a poor reading of theology. Christians do not hold the secret message of God's plan or what God wants for us. All we have is the Gospel, so we can look and discern the mysteries. On Sunday, we saw this. We don't know the nature of the Trinity, IT IS A MYSTERY. It has always been a mystery but a-lot of smart theologians have meditated and discerned on what is the nature of God. When we pray the rosary for example, we don't mediate on the 'Holy Facts', we meditate on the holy mysteries. As an Orthodox monk, Kallistos Ware said:

"...It is not the task for Christianity to provide easy answers to every question, but to make us progressively aware of a mystery. God is not so much the object of our knowledge as the cause of our wonder."

Also, in these times we see a growing gap between Religion vs Science. Why? I think its because we reject the idea of mysteries and call them facts. Isn't science a gift from God? Absolutely! If we take Sundays Gospel again,

"I still have many things to say to you

but they would be too much for you know"

Maybe it is possible, Jesus wasn't talking about science, it is a mystery. But we could say that Jesus was referring to it. Could you imagine if Jesus spoke something about the nature of Atoms and astrophysics. The apostles would freak out and not be able to take it. But throughout time, we are exposed to the truth of mysteries. The mysteries of the Atom, the mysteries of God. Day by day, we uncover a tiny bit of the true face of God. The Holy Spirit, inspires all of us to work, study and reflect on these mysteries.

So as we pray today:

We ask God, the Father, to help us and create opportunities to reflect upon your mysteries,

we ask God, the Son, to inspire us to put these mysteries into actions,

and we ask God, the Holy Spirit, to inspire us to reflect upon these mysteries of the universe.
